"SNACK BAR ON WHEELS"
is a food service success story.
Macri,
owner of Macri Catering Ltd., began driving a catering truck shortly
after emigrating to Canada from his native Italy in 1969. He worked
hard and saved enough money for the down payment on his first truck
in 1975, paying about $11,000. " Things sure have changed in
18 years", he says. "Today, the same truck would cost
about $70,000." He bough his second truck a few months later
and never looked back.
Today, Macri Catering operates more than 200 catering trucks out
of 4 buildings, 35,000 square-foot facility on two acres of land
in Woodbridge, Toronto, Barrie and Mississauga. The site houses
a food packaging operation which runs 16 hours per day packing sandwiches
and desserts for Macri's catering trucks and distributing food to
other catering businesses in the area. Counting the food packaging
operation, distribution and drivers, Macri now employs about 260
people.
A "snack bar on wheels" driver makes up to 100 stops per
day. From their Woodbridge base of operations, Macri's drivers serve
customers in an area that extends from downtown Toronto north to
Sudbury, and from Oakville in the west to Markham in the east.
